About me

My name is Dr Julia Thomson and I am a consultant paediatrician (pediatrician, children’s doctor) based in North London, UK offering private consultations on most Saturday mornings at Spire London East Hospital, Redbridge IG4.  I am registered with BUPA, CIGNA, Aviva, SimplyHealthCare, Vitality, WPA, WPA Protocol and AXA PPP and can also see self-funding families.  It is not usually a problem to register with other insurance agencies if yours is not listed here.

I came to medicine late having done a degree in French and Philosophy initially and tried out a rather eclectic mix of jobs for a few years before realising the call to my traditional family vocation (there is at least one doctor in every generation of my family back to the beginning of the 19th century!) was too strong to resist any more.  I trained at Southampton Medical School, qualifying as a doctor in 1997.  I have been working in paediatrics since 1998 both in the Wessex health region and in north London.  I am a general paediatrician which means I see any child from birth to their 16th birthday with just about any medical problem.

I have an interest in paediatric cardiology and am also happy to see children with palpitations and murmurs at Spire London East Hospital.  Children with a previously diagnosed heart problem or a family history of early deaths from a cardiac cause, should be seen by a specialist paediatric cardiologist at the Portland Hospital instead if the private route is preferred.

I live in north London with my husband and children, a varying number of tropical fish and a cat (who is not responsible for the “varying number of fish”…).
